Learn How to Draw The Elf on the Shelf®

Have your little ones ever wondered how to draw The Elf on the Shelf®? Now, using these free printables, they can! Encourage kids to choose the boy or girl Scout Elf drawing template. Then, guide them along the the step-by-step instructions and pictures to complete their own drawings. In no time, they’ll be a pro at drawing an elf!

Boy Scout Elf

You’ll Need:

  • Boy Scout Elf printable or piece of paper
  • Pencil or drawing utensil
  • Eraser

Instructions:

  1. Print the free boy Scout Elf printable or get a piece of paper.
  2. Draw a circle for the elf’s head. Use a pencil to draw a vertical guideline (A) down the center of the circle. Then, use the pencil to draw two horizontal guidelines (B & C) shown below—one across the center of the circle and one near the bottom of the circle. (You’ll erase the guidelines later!)

  4. Draw two half circles between the two horizontal guidelines (B & C) for the elf’s ears. Use the guidelines (A & B) to draw two half ovals for the elf’s eyes. At the intersection of the guidelines (A & C), draw a small “v” for the elf’s nose, a big “u” with two smile lines for the elf’s mouth and a small “u” for the elf’s lower lip. Erase all guidelines.

  6. Finish the elf’s eyes by drawing small circles for pupils and lines for irises. Add three eyelashes to the right side of each eye. Draw two eyebrows above the elf’s eyes. Create the elf’s hair by drawing two curved lines on the right and left sides of the elf’s face. Then, draw two curved lines near the top of the elf’s face for his bangs. Draw two short lines down from the circle for the elf’s neck.

  8. Create the elf’s collar by drawing a horizontal line that connects the bottoms of the two neck lines. Draw two diagonal lines, one from the bottom of the left neck line and one from the bottom of the right neck line. Finish the elf’s collar by drawing a zigzag line, connecting the bottoms of the two diagonal lines.

  10. Lastly, create the elf’s hat. First, draw a semi-circle above the elf’s head from ear-to-ear. Complete the elf’s hat by drawing an upside down “v” on top of the semi-circle.

  12. Congratulations! You just drew The Elf on the Shelf®!

Girl Scout Elf

You’ll Need:

  • Girl Scout Elf printable or piece of paper
  • Pencil or drawing utensil
  • Eraser

Instructions:

  1. Print the free girl Scout Elf printable or get a piece of paper.
  2. Start by drawing a circle for the elf’s head. Use a pencil to draw a vertical guideline (A) down the center of the circle. Then, use the pencil to draw two horizontal guidelines (B & C) shown below—one across the center of the circle and one near the bottom of the circle. (You’ll erase the guidelines later!)

  4. Draw two half circles between the two horizontal guidelines (B & C) for the elf’s ears. Use the guidelines (A & B) to draw two half ovals for the elf’s eyes. At the intersection of the guidelines (A & C), draw a small “v” for the elf’s nose, a big “u” with two smile lines for the elf’s mouth and a small heart shape for the elf’s lips. Draw two short lines down from the circle for the elf’s neck. Erase all guidelines.

  6. Finish the elf’s eyes by drawing small circles for pupils and lines for irises. Add three eyelashes to the right side of each eye. Draw two eyebrows above the elf’s eyes. Create the elf’s hair by drawing two curved lines on the right and left sides of the elf’s face. Draw three curved lines near the top of the elf’s face for her bangs. Lastly, draw two additional half circles between the elf’s ears and necklines to complete the bottom of her hair. Add earrings.

  8. Create the elf’s collar by drawing a horizontal line that connects the bottoms of the two neck lines. Draw two diagonal lines, one from the bottom of the left neck line and one from the bottom of the right neck line. Finish the elf’s collar by drawing a zigzag line, connecting the bottoms of the two diagonal lines.

  10. Lastly, create the elf’s hat. First, draw a semi-circle above the elf’s head from ear-to-ear. Complete the elf’s hat by drawing an upside down “v” on top of the semi-circle.
