Look What the Elf-nado Blew In

Oh! An ELF-nado. Well, that explains the mess.

Materials:

  • Polyester batting (see instructions for sizing)
  • Polyester fiberfill
  • Round wire wreath form
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glue sticks
  • Small lightweight objects to place in tornado
  • Printer
  • Paper
  • Printable
  • Fishing line

Instructions:

  1. Your elf will decide how large they want to make their tornado and will adjust the measurements of the supplies accordingly. (The tornado pictured uses an 18 inch wreath form and a sheet of polyester batting cut to a long triangle shape that is about 24 inches wide at the top, about five feet long and two inches wide at the bottom tip.)
  2. First, your elf will tie lengths of fishing line in at least two places on the wreath form to aid in hanging up the tornado after it is complete.
  3. Your elf will glue the top edge of the triangle of polyester batting along the edge of the wreath form, overlapping any extra and gluing it down.
  4. Next, your elf will begin gluing together the long edges of the polyester batting, overlapping it irregularly to create a slightly twisted cone shape.
  5. Then, your elf will lightly glue down long tufts of polyester fiberfill from top to bottom, round and round, shaping it to resemble the swirls of a tornado.
  6. Your elf will leave some polyester fiberfill trailing from the bottom to resemble the tail of the tornado.
  7. Finally, your elf will print and cut out the printable and place the elements into the tornado, as if it has whipped up items from the ground. They may also add small lightweight objects, like a miniature chair or other items.
  8. Lastly, your elf will stand beside the sign and wait for you to tumble out of bed to find them!
